Festival of the Lion King
Can you feel the love?! Festival of the Lion King is one of my favorite shows to experience at Disney World, and it’s returning! It has been closed since the parks closed in March 2020, not reopening when the parks did.
Puppets, dancers, stilt walkers, and more take the stage in this spectacular stage show. I love hearing all the songs from this childhood favorite, and I love that the performers get the audience involved with the animal noises!
We thought it may have been returning a few months ago when queue markers and hand sanitizers stations were placed at the attraction. However, that hope never came to materialize as Disney kept their lips sealed regarding this show.
Modifications
With the health and safety of Guests and Cast Members in mind, Disney will be making modifications for this show.
Disney Parks Blog shares:
When it returns, “Festival of the Lion King” will be presented in a modified format to be mindful of the current environment. There will be adjustments to the show on stage and backstage, including updates to choreography to allow for appropriate physical distancing. We’ll also adjust how the audience is seated, in line with other theater-based experiences at Walt Disney World Resort.
Reopening
Disney also shares they are thrilled to be starting the process of bringing back to work more singers, dancers, technicians and other cast members.
Expected this summer, the Harambe Theatre at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park will host that fan-favorite troupe of musical storytellers, along with Simba and his friends, in a celebration of the incomparable “Festival of the Lion King.”
Festival of the Lion King will return in the summer of 2021.
We will be sure to update with a specific reopening date when it’s announced, and we look forward to viewing this wonderful show again!
