Disney World's Star Wars Characters Get New Upgrade
Often, Walt Disney World misses out on the most exciting characters. Not only will Star Wars Galaxy's Edge receive new characters, but they will also receive some pretty cool upgrades.
New Star Wars Characters

Last year, Disneyland received two great character interactions. For Season of the Force 2024, Sabine Wren and Walt Disney Imagineering's BDX droids appeared in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland.
Recently, the BDX droids even made appearances along the Disney Cruise Line ships. Walt Disney World fans wondered when these droids may make their way to the East Coast.
Disney just confirmed that the BDX Droids will come to Walt Disney World, Disneyland Paris, and Tokyo Disney Resort later this year. An arrival date is not yet set. See more changes coming to Galaxy's Edge HERE.
BDX Droid Adaptability

What sets the BDX Droids apart? Well, apart from being adorable, they are very unique. Imagineer Moritz Bacher shares, "We basically take animation as an input and make sure that our robots know how to best follow these inputs. They learn to not only walk but to follow the artistic provided motion that differentiates us from the rest of the world."
These impressive droids took less than a year to create. There was a lot of testing time in the parks to see how they would adapt. The testing on the Disney Wish was an important step to see how the droids would adapt to the rocking of the ship.
Impressively, though, the droids were able to learn to adapt and balance even to the motion of the ship. However, Imagineers knew new upgrades were needed before introducing the BDX droids to Star Wars Galaxy's Edge at Walt Disney World.
BDX Droid Upgrades

The promise to bring the BDX droids to Walt Disney World brought along a few challenges. The biggest one is the Florida climate. In a recent interview at @techradar, Imagineers shared that "the BDX droid swapped 3-D printed components to milled ones better suited to handle the heat."
New upgrades are added to the BDX droids before they arrive at Walt Disney World.
Along with this upgrade, new content is also added to each BDX droid to allow an even more immersive experience for guests. An arrival date is not yet set for when they will land at Walt Disney World. Follow along for more details.
