Galaxy’s Edge Menu Gets All New Names!

Galaxy’s Edge Menu Gets All New Names!

For a stress-free Disney or Universal Studios vacation, let the FREE expert planners at Royal Carriage Vacations take care of every detail including dining reservations, applying discounts, and onboard cruise credit.

In what is likely an attempt to draw in a broader range of guests, Disney has changed the menu names at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo!

In keeping with the detailed theming, Disney offered guests an array of appropriately named entrees. BUT….did these names scare away diners?  First let’s take a look at the menu released on opening of Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge back in August.

Braised Shaak Roast, Smoked Kaduu Ribs, and Fried Endorian Tip-Yip may all have enticing descriptions but at first glance, some guests may pass up these delicious meals based solely on these unfamiliar names.

Less than 2 months later, it would appear that Disney has steered away from the themed menu in exchange for more traditional entree names. Here’s a glance at the current Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo menu.

Beef Pot Roast, Smoked Pork Ribs, and Fried Chicken are just a few of the more familiar names guests will now find on this menu!

Though Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo seems to get high reviews from those who have eaten there, these recent changes leave us to wonder if the themed menu names sent guests dining elsewhere. Offering delicious entrees with unfamiliar names may have caused skeptical guests to find other dining options. Whatever the case may be, Disney seems to have simplified the menu entree names, likely in an effort to draw in skeptical diners!

Have you had an opportunity to eat at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo? Will the new menu names make you more likely to stop in for a meal?

I’d love to hear your thoughts. Leave me a comment below or Facebook.

I am extremely disappointed and actually really upset about this change. I think it takes away from the immersion and my family is disappointed that this bit of magic will no longer exist when we go to Galaxy’s Edge. I read the names of the items to my kids today and had them guess what it really was and they got a good 80-85% right just by hearing the made up names and guessing what it really was. I’ve heard from many people who are also upset about this and said they had no problem figuring out what the food was when they went there. International visitors would be asking at most Disney restaurants for anything they didn’t understand anyway, so they can’t say it was for them. When we go to World Showcase we don’t know how to speak some of those languages but we can read what it is underneath and figure out what we are eating. So I think it might have more to do with the prices of the food scaring people away than the actual names of the dishes as most people seem really bummed about the change.

I think the rubber meets the road in the lower than expected sales in the restaurant. That's really why the change was made

I’m disappointed that they’ve changed the names to that. To me, it was all part of the experience and the theming. The same goes for Pandora at Animal Kingdom where the menus have names for their meals that are based around the actual land they are from.

I got a menu and was about to get in line,.. read the menu with the themed names and then read the descriptions. I handed the menu back and left. I’d be more likely to eat there with this new menu. “What’s in a name?” Maybe more than we know for people like me.

I'd be willing to guess you're not the only guest that reacted that way. We personally loved the food there but have only eaten there one time. For us, the higher prices at Docking Bay 7 steer us to other less expensive food options in that park.

Has it occurred to them that it's not the food they're afraid of, but the prices? ;-) Also, it's not like Galaxy's Edge is packed with people, well, at least not in Orlando.
