Top 5 Favorite Things About Port Orleans French Quarter Resort

For a stress-free Disney or Universal Studios vacation, let the FREE expert planners at Royal Carriage Vacations take care of every detail including dining reservations, applying discounts, and onboard cruise credit.

After our recent trip to Disney World and stay at Port Orleans French Quarter, we fell in love with the resort! There are so many things about this moderate resort that we love, but here are the absolute Top 5 that make it a must-do visit for any trip!

Beignets

I mean, need I say more? Staying true to New Orleans culture, the beignets at French Quarter are simply amazing. Three Mickey shaped beignets are accepted as a snack item on the dining plan! They even have a gluten free option available (and I can attest to the fact that these are delicious as well!).  Just order them at the Sassagoula Foodcourt and they will make them right there on the spot! Here’s a recent update on where to order these delicious treats!

Atmopshere

We all know that Disney goes all-out for theming, even at their resorts. I’m honestly not a big fan of Mardi Gras and all that goes with it, so I was a little hesitant to stay at French Quarter because I thought the theme would be too much for me. I was happily surprised with what I found when we arrived. It honestly felt like we were in another town when we were on property, like we had been transported to a quiet New Orleans district. It was heavenly. The quaint fountains, the cobblestone streets,  and the horse-drawn carriages all along the riverbank made it feel so relaxing. There were older couples there, as well as families with kids, but it didn’t seem loud to me at all.  Click here for a map of the resort.

Size

Port Orleans French Quarter is a moderate resort, which might make some people think it’s pretty big. While it looks like a fairly good size on the map, it’s honestly very walkable from end to end. We were in Building 1 and walked every day from our room to the bus stop, which was farther than the foodcourt in the middle of the property. Honestly, we didn’t feel like it was a long walk at all, even at the end of the night when we were exhausted and our feet hurt from walking all day and pushing a stroller. The walk to the pool, playground and the food court were very doable as well.

Pool

The pool here is very much geared towards kids, but that’s what makes it fun. The sea serpent slide is so fun, as well as the splash pad for the little ones. They even have a pool bar for the adults! Theming here is great which makes it a hit with all age groups!

Boat Access to Disney Springs

I think this is one of the lesser known perks of Port Orleans French Quarter. You can take a beautiful boat ride to Disney Springs and back, right from the French Quarter property. If you have a long trip planned and are scheduling a rest day or two (which I highly recommend if you have kids), you can hop on the ferryboat and go to Disney Springs, which doesn’t require an extra ticket! It’s full of shops, restaurants and other fun family activities! Then, when you’re done for the day, just hop on the ferryboat to get back to French Quarter!

Those are my top 5 favorite things about French Quarter resort! Have you stayed there? What is your favorite thing about this resort?

I love POFQ apart from the beignets - they're heavy, dry and taste of grease, like gone-off doughnuts.

POFQ is my family’s favorite resort! The size is very manageable, and we have always found cast members here to be extremely welcoming and kind. The theming is not over the top, and grounds are lovely for a walk. We can’t wait to stay here again next month!
