Disney World to offer Extra, Extra Magic Hours for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

Walt Disney World just announced a special fall 2019 offering that they call Extra, Extra Magic Hours.  In order to accomodate for the the expected crowds for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, most parks will open earlier than normal for onsite guests for Extra Magic Hours.  Here’s the details!

Disney – It’s May the 4th and the Force is strong at the Walt Disney World Resort with today’s exciting, out-of-this-galaxy update that this fall, guests of Disney Resort hotels and other select hotels will have more opportunities to take advantage of the Extra Magic Hours benefit with Extra, Extra Magic Hours for a limited time at our theme parks!

The Extra, Extra Magic Hours benefit will include Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, as well as other experiences at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom theme parks.  Here’s the rundown:

  • Disney’s Hollywood Studios — Daily from Sept. 1-Nov. 2, the park will have Extra, Extra Magic Hours from 6-9 a.m., including Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, plus Toy Story Land attractions and select other attractions. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and its experiences subject to capacity.

(Please note that on Aug. 29-31, Disney’s Hollywood Studios will open at 6 a.m. for all guests. There will not be Extra, Extra Magic Hours on those days.)

  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom – Extra, Extra Magic Hours will happen daily Aug. 29-Nov. 2, from 7-8 a.m., featuring Pandora – The World of Avatar and other attractions throughout the park (same as today’s morning Extra Magic Hours offerings).
  • Magic Kingdom Park —Extra, Extra Magic Hours will happen daily from Aug. 29-Nov. 2, from 7-8 a.m., featuring favorite attractions in Fantasyland and Tomorrowland (same as today’s morning EMH offerings).

Extra Magic Hours will also continue to be available on select days at Epcot.

If you’re visiting this fall, you should know that the Extra, Extra Magic Hours benefit at the Walt Disney World Resort requires a valid theme park admission and hotel ID.  Guests without the Park Hopper Option or Park Hopper Plus Option must spend the day at the same park where they’d like to enjoy the Extra, Extra Magic Hours benefit.

Also, not all Walt Disney World attractions are available with the Extra Magic Hours benefit.  Park hours and available attractions are subject to change without notice. *Applicable theme park, days and times of operation, attraction and service availability may vary and are subject to change without notice. Subject to capacity and cancellation.

Extra Magic Hours is one of the many benefits and amenities you can enjoy as a guest of a Disney Resort hotel.  Some of the others include early access to Disney FastPass+ planning (not available during Extra Magic Hours benefit), complimentary transportation and standard theme park parking and other entertaining amenities. 1. I am there for a convention in September. The convention is hosted at Swan and Dolphin with checkout on the 8th. We are transferring to All-Sports on the 8th so we can go to MK on the 8th and HS on the 9th. Do we get EEM hours both days? Thanks!

  2. I have a question. How do you think this will affect lines in those first hours in Toy Story Land. With FP tiers changing for our October vacation, I am trying to figure out which FP to use in HS. Would wait times still be very high if you were there at the 6 am park opening? I am thinking to FP SDD for all of us if possible and try out the line for RNR and TSM and Swirling Saucers.

  3. uggg – starting to wish I had changed my trip when I found out the opening date had changed to 8/29 while I will be there, but I was trying to hit Food & Wine. This leaves me few options for Thu, Fri, Sat if I don’t want to RD 7AM (which I don’t – that is why I don’t go during peak times) I am not going to go to EP all 3 days – sigh.
I thought just not going to HS from 8/29 forward would be enough to not throw me off too much. Now my 8AM PPO breakfast at BOG on Thu is not PPO so I am going to cancel & it means I have to use some of the prime morning hours to get some kind of food into the family after we have been there a bit.

  4. So…. our magicbands are enough proof that we have tickets and a resort stay? We will be at AOA before a cruise and Fort Wilderness a few days after. We are passholders.

  5. So glad I am going in 2.5 weeks and avoiding all that craziness! I thought getting to the parks at 7 30 was crazy….6 am???? No way!

  6. Have they released a list of which attractions will be available? Wondering if character meet and greets will be available like buzz Woody and Jessie? Also, will this impact showtimes?

  7. The 29th is our last park day, So excited! Just might get to see Galazy’s Edge! Don’t care if I ride the ride; Just wanted to walk around and see everything….do hope we can do Toy Story trough.

  8. Not happy. Sounds like we won’t get to ride anything on our Sept trip because we are staying off property.

    1. Actually it might help. A lot of the on property people will go in the extra hours , so less people later. We were there last September. The parks were full. Mostly locals who have season passes. They kept saying we come every week for a couple of hours . Ride the good rides and go home. The parks are so full any more. We want to go back but it’s hard to get any where with that many people. They changed how to buy season passes , so it’s crowd. You use to have to pay the whole amount now you can make payments. A lot more have season passes. Good luck and use you fast passes.

  9. I am going to be their on september3 -6 and on my birthday 9/4/2019 i will get extra magic hours for disney holly wood studios and be in star wars land early .

  10. Before I knew galaxy’s edge was opening I booked a dining reservation at sci fi for 30th August. If I don’t want to start my day at 6am and park reaches full capacity is my party of 10 still allowed entry for our meal?

    1. I am hoping to find a way to use it to my advantage. Rope drop won’t be as crazy and I’ll make good use of my fast passes. And I’m hoping more people leave mid day for naps and come back later for shows and stuff leaving the mid day hours less crowded! Honestly, just trying to stay positive at this point! We booked our trip for end of September specifically to avoid crowds

  11. Any idea what happens to Fantasyland Early Morning Magic during those dates? Disney’s page still show Tuesdays in September as offering Magic Kingdom Early Morning Magic in Fantasyland.

  12. I just noticed on the Disney website that it states August 29th that Galaxy Edge will be available for hotel guests during extra magic hours but not extra extra. You noted that it will be open at 6am for all guests. Can you confirm

  13. On MK days when they have regular EMH from 8-9, will that continue after the Extra Extra MH or will the park open at 8:00?

      1. We are arriving on Thursday actually late wed evening how will the line be handled on other sites people are talking about lining up a week early but I don’t see how this is going to be possible and personally I’m too old for that we just hope to get in and ride it while we are there. I don’t mind lining up a few hours early rather wait in the cooler evening than the heat of the day
