What will happen to Epcot Fastpass+ once Soarin’ closes?

What will happen to Epcot Fastpass+ once Soarin’ closes?

For a stress-free Disney or Universal Studios vacation, let the FREE expert planners at Royal Carriage Vacations take care of every detail including dining reservations, applying discounts, and onboard cruise credit.

Epcot’s Fastpass offerings are separated by “tiers” or categories from which you can choose.  You can choose one Tier 1 and Two tier 2 Fastpasses for your day at Epcot.  Soarin’ has been the most popular Fastpass+ offering, followed closely by Test Track.  Here’s what will change in January 2016 when Soarin’ closes for a lengthy refurbishment.

How Epcot Fastpass+ tiers will appear in January 2016

Current Epcot Fastpass list sorted by priority:

Tier One (Choose only one)

  • Soarin’
  • Test Track
  • IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth
  • Living with the Land

Tier Two (Choose only two)

  • Mission: Space
  • Meet Mickey, Minnie and Goofy at the Epcot Character Spot
  • Spaceship Earth
  • Turtle Talk with Crush
  • The Seas with Nemo and Friends
  • Journey into Imagination with Figment
  • Captain EO

How Epcot Fastpass+ will appear beginning January 4, 2016 list sorted by priority:

Tier One (Choose only one)

  • Test Track
  • IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth
  • Mission: Space
  • Living with the Land

Tier Two (Choose only two)

  • Meet Mickey, Minnie and Goofy at the Epcot Character Spot
  • Spaceship Earth
  • Turtle Talk with Crush
  • The Seas with Nemo and Friends
  • Journey into Imagination with Figment
  • Captain EO

Mission: Space will move from Tier 2 up to Tier 1.  But it will become really easy to tour Epcot.  Get Test Track as tier 1 OR go there at park opening, then visit Mission: Space.  You could actually use your FP+ for Illuminations and not have to bother with finding a viewing location.  Spaceship Earth and Meet Mickey are going to go pretty fast as you don’t really need FP for the other stuff in Epcot.  And PLEASE don’t waste a FP+ on Captain EO and its empty theater.

Soarin’ will return as a tier 1 FP after refurbishment and you should expect the new Frozen ride that is replacing Maelstrom and the Anna/Elsa meet and greet that is coming to join the tier 1 category, which will open up a lot of FP+ for Soarin’ and test track.  Once all that is completed, Living with the Land would likely move back to tier 2 where it actually belongs.

Question... if Anna and Elsa's new ride at Epcot is supposed to open in May and we are going in late May, do you suppose it will be an available option to reserve the fastpass 60 days ahead of time? What I don't want to have happen is that I reserve all my fastpasses and then 2 weeks before the trip find that the ride has opened and I can't fastpass it. Thoughts?

Wow, I thought it would be easy to do an early breakfast and arrive later since Soarin will be down, but now I guess I won't be able to do Mission Space unless I get there early over Spring Break. I agree it will be a nightmare if they make Frozen ride, Test Track, and Soarin tier 1. Hollywood Studios is already a nightmare with trying to do Jedi training, Toy Story, Rockin Roller Coaster, and Tower of Terror! Disney really messed up with my magic plus fastpass. The old system worked great. They should have just left it as is where you get your fastpasses in the park but maybe have it to where you scan your magicbands and it would put the fastpass on the band. Then just like the old system, as you use 1 you can get another and so on. I am an avid planner, but this 3 fastpass tiered thing really is terrible. It has really messed up our touring. We mostly use the first 2 hours of park opening or the last hour or two. Anything in between is just impossible!

I find DHS pretty easy. My plans account for all those attractions.

So Frozen, Anna & Elsa Meet and Greets, Soarin', and Test Track will all be Tier 1?! That's going to be a freaking nightmare! 1 of those needs to become a Teir 2!

Doubtful it would. I see outcome being 2 days at epcot to do all you would like with little waiting.

Thanks for the info but you may want to edit your text that advises us to "go their" to "go there" :). Their is possessive, belonging to them. There is a place.

Thanks. I know the difference, but didn't catch the error.
