Chip n Dale’s Campfire Sing-a-long

During our December trip to Walt Disney World, my daughter and I decided to check out Chip n Dale’s Campfire Sing-a-long for the first time.  We had planned to head over there last Christmas, but just didn’t make the time.  We’ve met Chip n Dale like 1.4 million times, but we enjoy our meets with the chipmunks because they are hilarious.  It’s just that Fort Wilderness is SO DIFFICULT to get around.  We drove our car to Fort Wilderness 

and parked in the lot and waited, and waited and waited on the internal bus to take us to the correct place. We waited 37 minutes, just for that bus! We arrived a few minutes late, but saw Chip n Dale being mobbed by the crumb cruncher crowd. I felt for the chipmunks and the CM who was trying to help. The parents were all enjoying chili-cheese dogs and super sodas, so the kids just ran and attacked the chipmunks. At one point Dale was on the ground getting tickled by some little kid while the CM was lovingly trying to get the child to let Dale get up. We laid low and the chipmunks composed themselves and mingled among the crowd.

We saw a small stage to the left with a large screen to the right. There was a guy with a guitar trying to admonish the kids to come and sing along and dance with him. It took him a few minutes, but he finally got a few willing cowpokes. The songs were ones you’d expect at a little campfire except for the Chicken Dance. Do people usually sing that at campfires?

The sing-a-long portion was pretty brief.  I’m not sure if was the near chipmunk riot, the weather beginning to look menacing or it’s just a normal part of the operation.  The cowboy singer politely closed up shop and most of the settlers returned to their dwellings or the really long wait for the bus.  My daughter and I decided to grab a snack and wait for the evening movie at the top of the small bleachers.

I opted for the chili-cheese nachos because hot dogs make me physically ill.  Seriously, they really make me sick, so I just avoid the tube steak and consumed my daily caloric intake with fried corn chips smothered in cholesterol.  My daughter wanted to prove that she is the healthier one and opted for the popcorn.  Don’t tell her, I snuck a few kernels during the movie.

All there is out in this area is the little stage with giant screen, the snack shack and this restroom building.

We had met the Chipmunks and tried to turn the Chicken Dance into the chipmunk dance, to no avail I may add.  We then consumed our fat content and sat down to watch a movie.  Hey, wait, isn’t that the SAME fish that was missing at Epcot AND Animal Kingdom earlier in the day?  Someone really needs to get that kid one of those controversial child leashes, that are becoming all the rage, before he ends up with a hook in his mouth!

We enjoyed most of the movie before it began lightning and we ran for the hills.  We’re not sure if anyone found the fish this time, but we succeeded in the two previous attempts.  Grab shell Dude!  We’re going to the outpost to try on some crazy hats!

I think she’s more of Meeko person.  I wondered why they didn’t have him out at the Animal Kingdom any longer for regular meet and greets.  We had fun trying on silly hats and laughing at each other.

I think the campfire experience is a fun one, especially for little kids who grow up in the suburbs with a 1/10 acre yard.  It was interesting to see kids turning their marshmallows into flame throwers because they didn’t know marshmallows could become incendiary devices.  My kids and I have enjoyed our share of outdoor experiences, so that element was nothing new to us, but fun just the same.  The smell of the burning hardwood will also set a nice memory for you as well.  After this we decided to get our car and drive around the camp ground to see some Christmas lights.  There’s no cost for the event and everyone is welcome, just wipe yer feet before enterin’.

(No chipmunks were harmed in the filming of this project.  Well, not permanent damage anyway.)
